For parents

The time you invest today will make a difference in the person she becomes tomorrow.

Parent/Guardian Commitment

Parents need to help through the year with planning and attending campouts or other activities, helping with fundraisers, taking a position on the Troop Leadership Committee (TLC), or becoming a Merit Badge Counselor or Assistant Scoutmaster.

Parents are encouraged to attend the TLC meeting (Troop Leadership Committee) which takes place the Monday after a campout

Parents are welcome at meetings and campouts and other activities. Youth Protection Training (YPT) is required of all adults that participate. You may sign up for online YPT here.

Uniforms

Scouts wear uniforms to meetings, campouts, and most events. The Class A uniform is required at meetings and on the way to and from campouts. The Class B uniform is for work days and informal events and Class A+ is for ceremonies.

Field — Class A: olive pants, shorts or skirt with the official tan scout shirt with Troop 2019 patch, green shoulder loops, and sneakers or hiking boots.
Class A+: also includes the official belt and neckerchief with slide. Our troop uses any red neckerchief.
Activity — Class B: the same olive pants, shorts or skirt with the Troop 2019 T-shirt.

Most of this can be bought at the BSA Scout Shop. The pants/shorts/skirt can be bought there or elsewhere. The Troop provides the 2019 patch and t-shirt.

Cost

The dues are $265 per scout which covers BSA registration for the Scout and one parent and Troop activities and supplies for the year. Please inquire about prorated dues if your Scout is joining after January 1st. Additionally, Scouts pay for food on campouts (approximately $20 each per campout) and occasionally for a more expensive campout activity. Summer camp is optional and Scouts need to pay camp fees and travel costs. The troop provides fundraising opportunities so Scouts can earn some or all of these costs. Financial aid and payment plans are also available.

Safety

BSA safety guidelines must be followed at all times. Two Deep Leadership is always followed, meaning that at scouting events, there are always at least two adults and a Scout can never be alone with an unrelated adult. All adults that work with Scouts are required to take Youth Protection Training online. The Scout Book comes with a pamphlet to read with your Scout about safety.

Campouts

Scouts generally meet for campouts at The Church at Highland Park on Friday at 6:00 pm and come back Sunday afternoon. Each patrol plans its own meals and contributes money for the patrol grubmaster to purchase food. Adults are usually welcome to attend campouts and contribute to an adult grubmaster for food. Scouts camp with their patrols independently and adults should not interfere unless there is an immediate safety concern.

Conduct

Scouts are required to follow the Troop’s Code of Conduct.

Highland Park Church

is the troop’s chartering organization. Scouts and parents should respect their property. We are grateful for all they provide.
